About the restaurant

Don't be deceived by the heavy black door and buzzer, it's the only way into Hihou, an elegant Japanese bar above Melbourne's hot lunch spot Nama Nama. Meaning ‘Secret Treasure', Hihou offers a dramatic and alluring drinking den with a menu of shochu, sake, Japanese whiskey and beers. A black marble communal table forms the centrepiece of the room, from which you can gaze onto the Treasury Gardens through a retractable glass wall. Behind the wooden bar, bottles of liquor displayed in sculptural timber racks are equally pleasing to the eye. There is also a 70's inspired lounge where guests are encouraged to de-shoe and recline on large ottomans. The food compliments the drinks and boasts moorish Izakya snacks. With the kitchen open till midnight, it's the perfect place to satisfy late-night cravings.
