About the restaurant
Johnny Alloo, named after Ballarat’s first restaurateur, aims to connect people through exceptional food and beverage experiences. The philosophy focuses on attention to detail, thoughtful design, and a well-considered menu, paired with friendly service. Originally built in the 1870s, the venue underwent a 14-month transformation in 2018-19, revealing solid brickwork and featuring contemporary mid-century and Art Deco design. Owned and operated by Ballarat local Matthew Freeman, Johnny Alloo reflects his extensive hospitality experience and passion for great design and community-focused hospitality.
