Whether you’re celebrating Christmas or not, Tuesday 24 December is the one day of the year where, for some strange reason, there isn’t anything exciting to do. Unless you’re stress cooking, wrapping or planning.
However, this year, we’re here to help with you plan out a fun-filled festive season. So, we’re ditching the last-minute running around and instead shaking up our night with a visit to some of our favourite watering holes.
From hidden speakeasies to rooftop bars, traditional Irish pubs and awesome alfresco areas – we’ve found all the best bars and pubs open on Christmas Eve in Adelaide.

Whether you’re naughty or nice, this Christmas Eve wander down Peel Street for one of our favourite cocktail bars in Adelaide, Maybe Mae. Hidden in a tunnel, guests will need to make their way down the stairs and then through the concealed door to this buzzing basement bar. With gold furnishings and lush leather booths, the true standout is the lineup of internationally awarded cocktails with favourites including the Lily Pad and the King Bee.

Adelaide CBD, Adelaide, South AustraliaThis Christmas Eve get ready to sleigh the skies with Merrymaker Rooftop Bar! Located atop of Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets, Merrymaker is all about creating a merry and bright setting. And this is naturally found in the drinks, tapas and sprawling city views. The space which can only be described as eclectic, looks as if it is straight out of Piet Mondrian’s Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow artwork. And this raw, funky vibe is reminiscent in both their food and drinks too. A must visit!

Hackham, Adelaide, South AustraliaThere’s no better way to celebrate Christmas Eve than at one of the most traditional pubs in Adelaide. Enter Mick O’Shea’s. Located in Hackham, 30 minutes out from Adelaide’s CBD, this contemporary pub is still worth the visit. This year, Mick O’Shea’s will be hosting a Christmas Eve Carols on the Eve event starting from 2pm. With an all-Australian wine list, Pink Moon Saloon also has plenty of beers, cocktails and spirits to wash down.
